Welcome to REGAP of Illinois!
Retired Greyhounds as Pets

REGAP of Illinois, Inc. is a Chicagoland area/Central Illinois based anti-race, non-profit, rescue and adoption group. We are a 100% volunteer, 501c3 charitable organization. Our mission is to rescue these magnificent dogs, find loving forever homes for them and to inform the public that adopting a retired racing Greyhound is an excellent decision.

Greyhounds are loving, devoted pets who, contrary to popular belief, are obedient, intelligent, calm and relaxed dogs.

Each year the overly competitive racing industry forces thousands of racers into early retirement, usually between the age of two and five years.

xx REGAP PICNIC!!
Sep 2 '10 - 1:18 pm by Grrdog

Hey Everyone!

Due to Nash's illness, I didn't get the Invites for the Picnic out on time.  Don't worry about the cutoff date for returning your Picnic Responses.  Just get them back to me a week before the Picnic.  I have to give EL Zarape a people count on Lunch.  If everyone can do that by the 20th, that would be Greyt!!!!

Thanks so much!

Love, Mona

xx Weaning Off Crate
Aug 27 '10 - 1:47 pm by Jean

I have been contemplating removing the 4 ft. crate from my bedroom. When I leave the house (it's usually between 2-4 hrs.) Kiley is free to roam the house, she has never destroyed anything in the house and I can trust her not to have an accident in the house. I started leaving the gate on her crate open when I go to bed. She now goes to sleep on her bed in the living room but sometime during the night she goes into her crate because she is always there in the morning when I wake up. This is the only time she uses her crate any more. I don't know if she is telling me she still wants her crate or if I'm just reading something into this. She just turned 3 this month and I've had her for 3 months now. I would like to hear your thoughts on removing the crate.

Jean

xx No More Pumpkin
Today at 07:05 AM by sillysallyrunninback

I was told by ALL the local grocery stores that there will be no more canned pumpkin until October 1st, and then after it arrives, there will be a limit on how many cans you can buy at a time.  I used the last of mine this morning.  I was wondering if it would be ok to substitute canned sweet potatoes in place of the pumpkin?  I don't give pumpkin to my dogs to help with stool issues, I just give it to Maggie to help her eat a little slower since she has no teeth and literally inhales it.  I haven't heard anywhere that sweet potatoes are harmful to dogs, I just wanted to check first.  Any ideas?
